Well, it’s done. I finished up the cardigan the other night, tried it on with a variety of clothes and accessories and I have to say, it just doesn’t work for me. The styling (possibly styling combined with the print) isn’t youthful, it’s overly large, and it’s too short to add a belt to try to cinch it in. Totally disappointing. I’m going to take it over to my mom’s to see how she looksfeels in it, but I’ve never seen her in anything like this so I’m guessing she’ll pass on this garment as well. No doubt this cardigan will wind up in the donation pile.
With that said, I think it’s time to move onto spring sewing. I’m spending the weekend surfing my patterns and magazines to figure out what I might make next…. I’m thinking something fabulous to wear for Easter! What is everyone else stitching up?
I’ll admit, this weekend I spread myself thin, but I did manage to make it into the sewing room to work a bit on McCall 5713… and now I think I don’t care for it. I washed the material prior to sewing (to make sure that it didn’t shrink after wearing). Doing this gave it an incredible amount of ‘cling’ so not only has it been difficult to work with, but when I tried the cardigan on, it seems to have an unusual fit (because it sticks to my clothes). Even though I like the print and the fabric in general, I just don’t think I care for it with this pattern – I think it seems to age me. I’m going to forge ahead and work on the neck band and seams to finish this cardigan off and then I’ll play with what clothing might work well with it to make it a bit more youthful.
I jinxed myself. Right after I mentioned that we hadn’t had much of a winter (and ready to move onto spring projects), it starts snowing. The cold breeze, fluffy winter coats, and piles of snow on the ground got me back into the mood of sewing something cozy…. something new just in time for the weekend.
So I searched though my stash and came up with a new project. Last year, at the end of winter, I picked up a fabulous sweater knit jersey from Gorgeous Fabrics. I knew that I wanted to make some sort of cardiganwrapjacket pattern, but was never motivated to use it (until now) because it just hasn’t been cold enough. I also pulled out McCall 5713 (now OOP) and decided that this would be the perfect design for this material. I plan on using view A (even though C looks fabulous) because I’m only working with 2 yards of this fabric… let’s hope it doesn’t shrink in the wash!
What is everyone else working on now that it’s decided to turn ‘cold’?
