This started out as my oldest UFO. Many years ago my niece drew crayon pictures on fabric. I planned to make a quilt with them but never got around to it. Recently I dug out the fabric squares to make a warm gift for the next generation! This quilt was actually made for my niece’s niece. http://pinterest.com/pin/158963061819397369/
Hi,
Last year I made a quilt for my uncle. He has Down Syndrome and has lived with my family for 25 years. Last year he had to move into a nursing home because his dementia became too much to manage at home. I’ve had a few years under my belt as a nursing home/rehab nurse, so I full well knew that the rooms the patients stay in are not that big and there isn’t room for a lot of stuff. But I wanted him to have something that would remind people that he is loved very much by his family and something to make his room look a little more comfortable and home-like.
I found a sweater at Goodwill and upcycled it into this fun winter quilt. It sure was a lot of fun to make. And I quilted some special messages into it about how much we loved him. It is sized perfectly to go on his lap when he’s in a wheel chair or over the foot of the bed as a decoration. I dropped it off one day before Christmas and left it as a surprise for my mom, who visits every day. She was very touched. My uncle is too far gone to know much of what is happening, but I want him to know that there are people who love him very much. The quilt is like a hug, for when we can’t be there.

This past holiday season was a whirlwind. I try to make one special item every Christmas. I made a tabletopper to go beside the front entryway door out of my absolute favorite Christmas fabric. Several years ago I had found wrapping paper with candy canes on it and I was thrilled to find the same print in fabric this year. I bound it in the green batik after I took this picture.

This a quilt, “Crystal Reflections”.
http://raisingpositivekids.wordpress.com/2013/01/17/crystal-reflections-quilt-is-completed/
It was meant to be a Christmas Gift for my step-daughter and future son in law. However due to an illness, I didn’t get it done for another couple of weeks.
It is over 2500 pieces. Made with hand-dyed batik cotton, and a rosette minky backing. When done, we weighed it, and it weighed over 13lbs! It also took me since July 2011 to make (I had a few projects on the go)
This is a special quilt as not only will it keep them very warm, but it’s an olive branch in an effort to let her know I am forgiving of the problems that have happened in the past, and that I hope we can move forward and stitch our lives together again.
Lots of hot pads for the holidays came in real handy for a quick gift given with a jar of cookie mix! I make these all year long as beginners and enders when doing my mass piecing.

By far the most AWESOME gift I have made to date were memory quilts for my brother and sister as Christmas gifts. These quilts were made from a selection of my dads’ old dress shirts. This was a huge challenge for me because I am NOT a quilter! Other attempts at quilting did not end well, I hate to say it! It was a real labor of love that drove me forward with this project, which took FOREVER I might add! I came up with this idea after losing my dad last year and thought this would be a great way to preserve his favorite shirts and give them a new life all while giving my bro and sissy comfort too. I mapped out a simple pattern and got to work. As luck would have it, I really DID it! The first quilt came out PERFECT!! I was in awe of myself, my determination and my new found skills! So, I decided to do another! As is my way… This was not only a project but a journey for me in many ways. I learned A LOT and cherish the time I spent making these quilts, even the really late night sewing sessions! This time was full of memories, lots of laughs, and some tears too. For all these reasons, this will always be my favorite sewing project.
So, I hope to be considered for your giveaway! This would be a treat to have an awesome robot, I mean machine to continue my journey. Sewing is what I live for!!

Well I’m not sure it it would be considered an accessory or not, but I made a “Winter dress” which you can see here:

I love it because it helps keep me stylish and warm in the winter, which in Western Maryland is quite a feat
This is a baby quilt that I cross stitched for my first grandchild, it was my first quilt, and I am so happy that it turned out to look as good as it does…I was a little nervous, cause I wanted it to be just perfect for granny’s little Joseph..and I hope that he will cherish it half as much as I cherish him…he is such a blessing! I have never owned a sewing machine, so if I should win, I will be blown away and speechless! Thank you! https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1405143811013&l=911ab7d058
Mine isn’t a warm accessory, but watching the kids play with them did warm my heart! Here are the dolly diaper bag sets I made for my little girl’s fourth birthday party! It’s linked to my family blog (where I’m sure my grandma is scratching her head at why I felt the need to post these particular pictures!)

Thank you for sponsoring this giveaway, it’s a biggie!
Ok, I admit I was trying to jump on the giveaway bandwagon!
My favorite holiday accessory was my first knit hat, which I realize isn’t sewn… but it was a biggie for me!

<3 the giveaway – thank you Stacy!
I made a lot of Christmas gifts this year but failed to take photos. However, I do have one of the eyeglass holder I made for my mom. Although, the only reason there’s a photo is because my mom sent it back to me to fix
I’m new to using metal frames and the pattern I made was a bit too small. I was able to make the original fit the frame but I’ve since created a new pattern and will be trying that out this week.

Hi! I am not sure if this qualifies as I entered this for another singer sewing competiton in the past. Here is the link:

thank you for this amazing giveaway.
I was not sure which winter item to include so I decided to tell about both. When I think about winter and coziness I think fleece. This first project is sew special to me because my 9 year old nephew was pleading with me to teach him to sew so we eventually made fleece pajama pants. I love them. See them featured half way down the page here with my nephew sewing them himself. http://darcyro.blogspot.com/2013/01/superheroes-fleece-and-extras.html?m=1
The other winter accessory I made and loved are some mittens. It was 7 degrees outside one cold day and it was out without gloves so I came home and made some mittens. The outside is made if animal print fur and the inside is lined with jersey material. Love love love them. See them here: http://darcyro.blogspot.com/2013/01/mittens-anyone.html?m=1
