Probably one of the least exciting posts has to do with the prep work before sewing. In this case, it’s tracing off a pattern and washing denim (several times). Last night I traced off all the pieces to Hot Pattern’s Classix Nouveau Dressy Jean and washed my fabric 3 times to make sure it was soft and shrunk up enough so I didn’t end up with capris later on down the road. I would have traced off this dress from the latest Ottobre Woman as well, but I ran out of Easy Pattern tracing cloth – which means I have to make another trip to Joann’s this week.
I’m also finishing up my crafted item for the International Snack Swap…. for a change I am not sewing anything, but ‘painting’ something instead. I’ll be posting the completed item tomorrow when it’s done.
What is everyone else up to this week?

Even though I do not foresee making my own jeans, those really do look classic, comfy and very wearable. I am looking forward to following your project.
I am brushing up my long-neglected and very basic knitting skills in hopes of making golf club covers requested by a relative. Apparently, the store-bought versions are ill-fitting, flimsy, and tend to unravel. Years ago, I knitted some for another relative – for the same reasons.
Dealing with all the stress of a bathroom renovation — dealing with contractor, plumber, electrician, tile salespeople ….!!! I’ve had zero craft time (let alone time to myself) and need to get cranking on knitting a hat for my husband which I promised a year ago. I have sewing projects too and don’t want to forget the lesson I got on the basics of my new sewing machine! What’s a girl to do??!!
Peggy Sagers of Silhouette Patterns has this trick for softening denim – “This is the Coca-cola trick. Wash this denim with a can of coke and you will be amazed how soft the end result is. The enzymes in the coke will do a number on the cotton fibers and it comes out yummy!!!”
It works great! She has some beautiful denim and other fabrics as well as her great patterns for sale on her website – silhouettepatterns.com
OOOh, I’ve never heard of using Coke – what an interesting idea. I may have to try it.
