Funk

Alright, for the first time in a long time, I’m having a motivational problem. Most of last week, I stayed out of the sewing room because I was preparing for company and the party and now that everyone is gone, I’m feeling too tired to sew…. and yes, even surf! I’m not quite sure how to get out of this ‘funk’ except for the fact that I do have some ‘deadlines’ ahead of me. Does anyone have any good funk-busting tips they care to share?

If only I had a tip. I’ve been in the same funk. Perhaps you could focus on a different project (I’m into gardening right now) if only for a few days. That way you can look at sewing anew. I am guessing that you may just be plumb tired and deserve a rest!

I get inspired by looking at blogs and what others are sewing/doing…..
Fabric.com is having a 50% off sale and if all else fails, take a break and own it sister! You deserve it 🙂

    Stacy,
Check out sign of the arrow .com….needlepoint site. Have you ever tried to do a needlepoint belt for your husband? The store is located here in St. Louis but you can buy online. I usually do this when I burn out on sewing. It’s easy! Needlepoint his favorite sport or hobby and add a monogram to personalize it. It is relaxing! When Easton gets bigger you can make one for him. When you finish you send it in and they make it into a belt

i’m in a sewing funk and have been for a while. I think right now it is the weather and a bunch of home projects that need to get done. I hate sewing when my heart isn’t into it.

Sometimes what helps me is to do a small, simple project that I can get done quickly. Once I have that feeling of instant gratification, I usually feel the urge to do something more. But then other times, you just need to take a break.

I’m guessing the whole world is in some kind of funk right now! (flu, economy. war, jobs!)
Stuff that usually inspires me: Deadlines, a visit to an art or fine craft exhibit, a change in routine, a vacation to a new place, finally feeling very rested and caught-up.
I have some new fabric off the $2.97 tables at G Street and am hoping it will ‘make me’ have some fun! Hope you find a ‘cure’ real soon.

I am no stranger to “the funk.” Usually when I get that way, I either spend time reading sewing mags or books or I just make something simple that has straight lines — like a scarf. Your mojo will be back. Sometimes you just need to take a break. Heck, my last break lasted 7 years!!

I agree you are probably just tired. I have always been amazed at all you do. Maybe you just need to rest a little.
Sometimes when I am in a funk it helps me to just go into my sewing room and work on straightening it up.
