Although I’ve got the fabric cut out on my mesh boatneck top, I decided to take a break from the pattern and work on something different. Since I had all my materials ready, I chose to work on the Reversible Hat from YouCanMakeThis. I’ve put up a review at PR, but thought I would share my thoughts about it here as well.
First off this is a great pattern for beginners. The instructions have over 40 photos that walk you through the steps of the pattern, plus it’s foundation pieced (it sounds scarier than what it is) so it’s practically goof proof when it comes to patchwork! You can skip the foundation piecing if you’re comfortable with sewing 1/4″ seams. However, I used it and am glad I did because the yarn dyed cotton plaid that I used wanted to stretch out out shape and the template kept all of my pieces the same size. Secondly, I LOVE that this hat is reversible! So now Easton has two hats in one… now if he would only keep it on his head. Here’s the final result:

The only down side to this pattern is that it’s a large PDF – over 50 pages if you print off the instructions and all of the pattern pieces. The upside – it goes up to a size 22.5″ head circumference… which means I can make this one for myself too!

How cute! Love the photo of Easton.
Easton seems to like the hat!!! And he looks darling in it! I nominated you for the Sisterhood award…go check out what I said about you! Mary
He is too cute in that hat! Thanks for the review. I bookmarked the site so when I get up enough nerve I might just try it.
What a cute hat! Cute baby also! Nothing more adorable than a baby in a hat. I must make one for each of my grandsons for summer.
I’m still thinking about this hat – yours turned out so cute. Helps that the model is so darn adorable. The 50 pages of printing is making me think twice, though.
