About Those Onesies

Over the weekend, I dyed a package of onesies. Of course, I couldn’t leave them in their naked state…..

So, I rocked them out:

Initially I grabbed the wrong transfer paper – the kind you use for light colored fabrics. You can see that one (for my partner’s husband’s band The Accursed) didn’t turn out a brilliant as the others. That’s when I found my transfer paper for darks – I can’t rave enough about this product! As you can see, the images are much crisper (in fact, I even made one for our little guy – the Guitar Hero III onesie).
For the last onesie I used June Tailor’s Jean Trix silver foil sheets to write out the word ‘metal’. The product itself was a bit tricky to work with – the protective sheet that covers the foil is a bit thick so it’s somewhat difficult to cut through (especially when you’re dealing with little letters), but the effect is well worth it! If you’re planning on trying it for yourself, stick with simple, large designs…. and if you’re good with an x-acto knife, be sure to use it over a pair of scissors!
On a related note: For more information on applying appliques and iron on transfers, check out ThreadBanger’s episode from last week.
Just to let you know, Sunday’s update will be a bit late… some friends of mine are hosting a baby shower for me so the afternoon will be spent unwrapping baby goodness!
Lastly, today kicks off Colorectal Cancer Awareness month. If you’ve been reading this site for awhile, you’ll know that my dad passed away from colorectal cancer a little over two years ago. According to the American Cancer Society, it’s one of the third leading causes of cancer related deaths in the US. But, it doesn’t have to be – diagnosed at an early stage, the 5 year survival rate is greater than 90% (with many living much longer than the 5 year benchmark) – so get out there and get screened! I’m off my soapbox now….

Your baby is going to be the coolest baby in the playground! These baby pieces are so unique!
Thanks for dropping a word about the colon cancer. Information is the best weapon against all illnesses…specially ones that we can (and should) prevent getting super bad. Our families will be thankfull!
G-d bless your dad’s memory.

Great job! Wonderful idea…. I’ve never used the transfer paper so I might give it a try. I hope to start making ‘baby stuff’ soon myself. We found out that I’m having a girl.
Learning more about cancer in general, what causes it and prevention is something very dear to me. My father passed away almost 1 1/2 yrs ago to cancer and my brother had a cancerous tumor removed very recently. (It appears that there wasn’t anymore and it hadn’t spreaded, thank God). I will definitely spread the word and remind thouse to get screened.

Ack!! Those are SO cute!!
This sorta takes the surprise factor outta the equation, but you just have to send me your address so I can send you something for the baby. I’m so excited! I’m enjoying this vicarious pregnancy alot ;D

Those are hysterical! I love them! BTW, the faded black color is perfect.
