Disocunt On Magazines

Category : General

Before I get into my purchases from yesterday, I wanted to give everyone a heads up – If you have a Hancock Fabrics near you, check out their magazine section, it appears that they are 50% off everyday, without a coupon (I am assuming this is all stores and not just my local one)! Unfortunately, Craft is not one of their titles (but Threads is)….

Since I’ve been packing everything up, I decided not to add anything else to my fabric stash (at least not until after we move in May). However, I did pick up a few patterns. The first one is for Vogue 2750 which I will probably use the aqua print once it arrives (crossing my fingers, this afternoon) and the second, Kwik Sew 3487 which looks to be a very versitile (and cute) maternity top.
Now, I’m off to meet a fellow Wichita sewer for coffee and sewing inspirations!

I love that dress and the fabric, but my favorite is the top pattern! That is very versatile, and you could probably get away with that style even after you give birth! I just love, love that top!

They never had such cute maternity clothes when I was pregnant!

It’s not all the magazines, though… IIRC Adorn was full price, and maybe a couple of others. I’m wondering if it’s just the back issues, and if they can’t do the usual cover returns because of their financial issues.
Whatever the reason, I’m not complaining… I picked up a couple of Soft Dolls & Toys, since I let my subscription lapse.

Stacy, two very cute patterns. I agree with Sheila, I never had such cute patterns when I was pregnant. I made one jumper during my first pregnancy, an entire family could have fit in it! C

Oh man, I was just there yesterday for the pattern sale and didn’t even glance at the mags. I’ll have to check next time. I got piles and piles of patterns yesterday since both hancocks and joanns had pattern sales. I put a pic on my blog of the haul :) I don’t remember if you subscribe to Burda WOF but last year they had an issue with some really cute basic maternity patterns that could be great staples. I’m thinking this year’s issue with maternity patterns should be coming out soon.

I like that maternity top pattern! If it had been out during my last pregnancy, I definitely would have tried it! I’ll have to keep that one in mind should we decide to have another one at some point…. :)

You are so lucky that the fashions right now tie right in with maternity looks! It makes the whole experience even more fun, right? (Any excuse to sew new clothes, haha.) Those are great choices.

i made that lauren sara dress during my last pregnancy (i reviewed it at PR). loved it — i felt so pretty! darnit, you’ve got me wishing for another little one, so i can have the cute clothes! ~sigh~ i so love little babies. :)

forgot — the august issues of WOF usually has the maternity patterns, so search ebay for august issues (feburary usually has first communion patterns, i think january usually has some costumes for carnival).

Karen – that might explain why the rack was so small – not everything was on sale!
Thanks for the reminders on Burda WOF, I’m going to have to go back through last years issues and check them out!
I am very impressed with the maternity clothes this time around – I believe I thought the clothes were so icky when I was pregnant with Taylor that I wore a lot of Bret’s shirts (I didn’t sew back then).

I finally got to Hancock’s pattern sale today (Vogue $3.99 and Butterick 99 cents) – a day too late it seems. My size was gone in some of the patterns I wanted to look at. But when I had actually looked closely at the patterns, I didn’t want some of them anyway. I ended up with two Vogues(8251 view B, 8393 views C&D) of 4 summer tops each and a simple Butterick 4789 twist top/dress/pants. And the big, huge, gigantic Issey Miyake coat pattern 1476. That last one just for fun. Vogue can’t retire it – it has quite a “following”. haha.
There were almost NO mags in the store. Also not much new fabric. They are obviously re-grouping under financial stress. Hope things get better for them.

Firstly…CONGRATULATIONS! Where the heck have I been? Babies are precious, and I hope you’re taking it easy!
And on the WOF…I remember thinking the last couple of years had some cute things in them. Not a lot of stuff, but some basics. Of course the new Ottobre Woman has a couple of things too.

Cute patterns Stacy! I totally forgot that WOF had maternity clothes in the Aug issues. I remember thinking WOW those are cute! I can’t wait to see what you make!
