I have to say, when Shop Onion opened up a while ago, I was intrigued. I had seen an occasional review of their patterns, but had shyed away from them since they weren’t in English. However, since Shop Onion not only offered the patterns themselves, but a translation of most designs, I decided I would at the very least sign up for their newsletter. Then last month, I could resist no longer – I placed my first order. So after getting them in the mail, the knit top went to the front of my ‘must sew’ list. I searched my stash and found a nice stripe cotton jersey that I had been storing for several months and a solid black interlock for a contrasting neckband – I was so excited to get started, I forgot to pre-wash….. I hope that doesn’t come back and haunt me after I launder this top for the first time.
So, now I present to you, my first Onion top:
I love it. If this was a top I found in a store, I would want one of every color! The directions were short, but wasn’t difficult to follow. I’m glad that they were translated, since there is only one illustration to look at and I’m not sure how language translation software does with Danish! If you’re interested in reading up more on this pattern – you can read my review here. This top makes my official review count at 100 on Pattern Review! Whew, that’s a lot of sewing.
It looks fantastic! It’s so cute and modern, and I love the colour. Looks great on you!
Wow, kudos on writing 100 reviews on Pattern Review! I have only reviewed 5 patterns, which is bad. I use the site so much – I really should take the time to give back a little, and write up reviews on every pattern I’ve used! Not that I’ve used 100, like you! (I got my first sewing machine in July 2004)
adorable, I love the colors of the stripes.
Super top! Good use and placement of the stripes. And now you CAN have it it in every color – ‘cuz you sew!
Congratulations on both the top and the 100 review mark!!
I too have been leary of picking up non-English patterns. I’m glad to hear you had a good experience with it.
Stacy, stacy, stacy! This top could easily be hanging on the racks at JCrew. It’s absolutely perfect, the stripes, the binding. I love it!
Stacy, it looks great! I love the fabric, the fit looks GREAT! I agree with Kelly…it could be hanging on the racks at JCrew!
Did you catch any of the project runway season 2 marathon yesterday? …that’s ALL I did yesterday (well…almost :p)
100 reviews…wow. I haven’t done a review there at all :/. I just joined a few months ago…I’ve done several patterns since I joined, too!! I write my thoughts down on an envelope that I keep the pattern in, I should transfer those. Hrmmm.
Its an adorable top. Just perfect. Guess I’ll have to order the pattern.

Great top Stacy! Congratulations on your 100th review!
The top turned out great. I have been curious about the Onion patterns but was waiting to hear your reviews. It’s good to hear you approve.
It looks great on you! I love that neckline.
Awesome top! And congrats on the 100 reviews!
This is a great looking top on you! I can certainly understand why you would buy it in every color if it were RTW. Looks like you have a new potential TNT pattern on your hands.
And congrats on your 100th review!
Stacy – congrats on the 100 reviews! And you’re right that does represent a whole lot of sewing! The top is great too!
PERFECT on you!!!
darn, one more Onion pattern on my list
I’d never heard of these patterns before but yours is so nice, I’m going to look into them. Thanks!
I was afraid someone would beat me to the punch and say what I wanted to say…whereas most of us avoid horizontal stripes like the plague, they just serve to show off your tiny waist! A very cool top!

I love it! I would totally buy this Stacy!
