The Alternate View

I managed to finish my second pair of panties using Kwik Sew 3301 and fold over elastic. This time I used view B (you can find the completed photo along with pattern and fabric information on the 2007 sidebar).

I had a bit more trouble with the fold over elastic than what I did in class. Most of my issues were due to the fact I was trying to go too fast and wasn’t holding the fold over elastic enough (I was trying to keep from repositioning my hands constantly, this didn’t work and actually made more work for myself in the long run!). By the time I got to the second leg, I had it down and was confident again. Overall, I’m pretty happy with the way they turned out and I like the lower cut of this style so much better. I’ve posted a review of this pattern at PR, you can check it out here.
Of course, my favorite pair of panties has go to be Jalie 2568. I am thinking of adding some height to the hipster and bikini styles and eliminating the lace elastic all together (the lace adds a 1/2- 3/4 of an inch to the height) and using some fold over elastic to the waistbands. I have got quite a bit of buttermilk and onion skin scraps that I can put to good use! Be prepared for underwear posts over the next few months!

oh, okay. You did use FOE at the waist then. I have been playing around with that other KW pattern you reviewed and might try FOE on it next go around. I made a pair in the geisha girl onionskin 🙂

I’m sorry! I probably wasn’t that clear in my PR review, I started on it late last night and didn’t proof read it before I finished it this morning.
OOOOh, those are going to make a wonderful pair. I may have some left myself, now all I need is to load up on elastic!

Stacy, I just added another picture of me wearing both the dress and the jacket, at your request! Thank you for the nice comment on my review!

well, I have to say I have never had any interest in making panties but after reading your blog I have to admit I’m curious. I’m wondering though..is there a good online sourse for the notions? FOE and lace etc?

Stacy, great looking panties. I ordered the Jalie pattern today. I needed something to match all the bras I am going to make from Anne’s kits! You were right about the fabric she brought to my ASG. I bought 3 pieces, 2 yards each, 3 bra kits, several notions and I won a bra kit as a door prize. Thanks for the reviews at PR. Hope Taylor is feeling better.

Stephanie – I’m lucky enough to have a place locally, so I haven’t done a lot of online ordering. Anne does do a lot of her business over the phone (316-684-5989) if you wanted to give her shop a call (they have a huge selection and lots of matching colors). I know that there are a couple of good online stores – the only one that I can think of right now is LaceHeaven.com. Ebay also has elastics and laces too (some that I haven’t seen anywhere else, in fact, I may order some tonight!).
Lori – Yay on winning a bra kit! I hope you learned a lot – I’m looking forward to reading about what you make!
I can’t wait to see your new fabrics, too.

Oh man! Those are so nice looking that now I think that I am going to have to give this a try too. I have the Jalie 2329 that I bought on a whim when I bought that popular Jalie pants pattern form the PR classifieds. I guess that mine if our of print now. Stacy you are such an enabler!
