New Tee

White tops can be so boring, I know. But this T-shirt was really made becasue I need it.

White t-shirts are a staple in my closet – they go with everything, you can wear them year round, and you can dress them up (a little) or down depending on the occasion. In fact, I own several in different styles. As I was pulling one out the other day, I noticed how ‘old’ it was looking. That’s how this top came to be. I used a wonderful matte cotton jersey from Needle Nook and the Jalie 2005 pattern – which makes this the nicest looking t-shirt I have, by far!

Really nice t-shirt! I’m very impressed that you sew t-shirts. I just buy mine. But I don’t own a serger. Maybe I should get one since it would be fun to be able to sew up print t-shirts.
I think I would still mostly buy solid color ones. I am partial to cotton/spandex ones, like Target sells in several versions. My current favorite version looks quite a bit like your shirt: v-neck but raglan sleeves. When it was on sale this summer, I bought two each of black and white plus one each of red, light grey, and hot pink! I may try the set-in sleeve version.
G Street Fabrics will soon be having a super sale of “serger-like” sewing machines made by Singer for $199.99 marked down from list price of $549.99. I don’t know anything about these machines. G Street does not carry Singer machines but apparently will be the only store to sell off this “overstock”. It sounds like a regular, maybe heavy-duty, machine but with a specialized overlock stitch. Cutter is extra. I’ll probably at least look at it. Do you like your serger?

I love my serger! (I have a White 2000 model). The only thing that I wish it did was a coverstitch. When my serger was giving me ‘issues’ awhile back, I had considered getting a Babylock that does a coverstitch and was a 5 thread model.
I’ve had my machine for 6 years or so now and just had one ‘issue’ (centered around the cutting blade – I hadn’t gotten it screwed in tight enough and it just did crazy things!) with it recently, otherwise, she’s been purring like a kitten (knock on wood)!
